Barclays Capital Strengthens China Research with Appointment of Dr. Huang Yiping

Hong Kong, August 8 2011 - Barclays Capital is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Huang Yiping as Managing Director and Chief Economist, Emerging Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Dr. Huang will lead the firm’s coverage of macro-economic research on China and will have responsibility for Hong Kong and the cross-straits political aspects of relations with Taiwan. He will report to Piero Ghezzi, Barclays Capital’s Head of Global Economics, Emerging Markets and FX Research and Jonathan Scoffin, Head of Research, Asia.
Dr. Huang joins Barclays Capital from Peking University where he was Professor of Economics at the China Center for Economic Research. Dr. Huang also held the position of Rio Tinto Professor in the Chinese Economy, Crawford School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University.
Previously he was at Citigroup, where he was Chief Asia Economist, and Head of Asia Pacific Economic and Market Analysis responsible for overseeing regional macro-economic and financial sector research.
Other positions include time at the Australian National University in Canberra where he was Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer for the National Center for Development studies at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies. Dr. Huang was also the General Mills Visiting International Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in New York. Dr. Huang was also policy analyst with the Research Centre for Rural Development of the State Council in Beijing.
